Tosin Adarabioyo Rising To The Occasion

8th December 2017

Following his debut against Steaua Bucharest in the Champions League, Tosin Adarabioyo reached a new milestone by playing his first full 90 minutes at the Etihad Stadium. In a match that concluded Manchester City’s group stage in the European competition, Adarabioyo was entrusted to start, showcasing his abilities on one of football’s most prestigious stages.

With Pep Guardiola implementing seven changes from the weekend’s lineup, the City manager expressed pride in the young players' performances, recognising that they had not only honoured their roles but also upheld the club’s high standards. This pivotal moment in Tosin’s journey reflects the value of patience, readiness, and seizing opportunities when they arise—qualities that resonate with all who aspire to achieve greatness.

“Congratulations to Shakhtar, they made it a good game, but we did too. We started really well but their first goal was magnificent while their second I felt we didn’t defend too well. But we fought, and I’m so pleased for Tosin, Brahim and Phil for how well they played in the Champions League against a really good team in Shakhtar Donetsk. They are resilient and talented players and the people saw it. We came here to win, we couldn’t, but we were there until the end to trying to do so. We had already qualified, so we tried to put one player there up front and changed things a little bit. We were helped by Fernandinho in our build up because Tosin and Mangala have other qualities from that and we created good spaces outside because they defend really well. I’m pleased and happy for the performance.”

— Pep Guardiola, Manchester City Manager
